The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. ~ Carl Jung, Swiss psychologist (1875 - 1961)
Who is the INTp?
The INTp "Critic" represents "The Architect" as a man who loves problem solving directing his interest in systemic harmonising of the chaotic universe. He has a mysterious need to find order out of disorder creating a talent for lateral thinking in the grandiose vision of a better tomorrow for all.
He spends time alone contemplating how to capitalise on the rich resources of men's minds in order to make positive contributions to the world. His exterior may seem cold and dispassionate but his interior has a warm and compassionate glow. He carries the burden of intuitively seeing society's problems that he longs to do something about.
The personal mantra of the INTp would go something like, "If today was perfect there would be no need for tomorrow". He will need to find an existing demand and/or create a demand, place himself as one of the major suppliers and convince people that they need it else something bad will happen.
As a project manager who lives far away on a secluded island (figuratively speaking) he will insure a healthy profit margin where revenue exceeds expenses. He will help deliver a global product that produces a continuous stream of profits with numerous repeat customers and of course employ an effective sales force with responses prepared for anticipated objections.
His ability to consider the global marketplace allows him to build an infrastructure that will continue the business far into the future well after his retirement. He will seek out powerful, persuasive, enthusiastic, credible and dynamic leadership to succeed him.
The INTp "Critic" closely matches the character of The Architect in the film Matrix Reloaded with his cool communication style, victim erotic attitude and his overall irrational-introverted temperament.
In this video clip we see the INTp founder in his reclusive voyeuristic domain — the source, where he spends the majority of his time making sure his creation, the matrix, continues to function properly.
The INTp founder gets an inevitable meeting with Neo (an INTj type — played by an ENFp actor) whom explains to him that his existence represents the product of a systemic anomaly inherent to the programming of the matrix.
We also get another sense of how this quasi-identical pair differ. The INTp founder in his role as system's architect and Neo in his role as system's analyst thus the only person who can overthrow 'the system' because of his intrinsic understanding of it.
The INTp founder has a patriarchal view towards 'the system' which he tries to transgress to Neo, a member of the "children's society" by comparison. This leads them to a peaceful conflict between "adult wisdoms" and "childlike curiosities" i.e. genius and naivety — ideally a synergistic relationship though not in this scene.
"..everyone here is dispensable
except for me.." — Elliott
In this film trailer we see the INTp designer (Elliott, the foreign blonde-haired guy with the glasses) restoring all hope of survival with an ingenious plan to build a plane out of a plane.
The Flight of the Phoenix represents a classic "clash and synergy" time-critical story exploring two of the 8-functions — introverted sensing (Si) and extroverted intuition (Ne).
The story goes from the sit back and do nothing hopelessness and despair of their situation to the renewed hope inspired by a lone INTp designer and his confident vision of the solution. He does not require their validation for his associative thoughts.
The Si types with their hyper-awareness of the surrounding "chaos" readily state the facts defaulting on a tunnel-vision to do nothing and wait for rescue. The INTp designer as if aware or even slightly ruffled by the chaos focuses his energies on finding a solution to the problem.
The Si types hate "the gift" that the INTp designer offers. He has no desire to please his brothers and sisters, he simply wants to utilise his god-given strengths or die trying. During the course of the film the Si types have quarrels with him as their pessimisms consume them.
The INTp designer (due to increased stress) comes across as a strict taskmaster with that classic adage about INTp types — "cold on the outside, warm on the inside". He truly wants to solve the problem although doesn't want to let heated emotions get in the way of their goals.
